Mobel's big day at Giro d'Italia

107th Giro d'Italia 2024 - Stage 5

That's how Benjamin Thomas took the Cofidis jersey to the podium of the “Corsa Rosa”.

Benjamin Thomas took the Cofidis jersey to the podium of the “Corsa Rosa” as he won a thrilling stage in the 2024 Giro d'Italia.

The stage took place in the beautiful city of Lucca and featured high-speed cycling and an exciting finish. Thomas described the stage as a long chase and an incredible escape. He expressed mixed feelings of extreme fatigue and immense happiness after his victory, saying: “It wasn't easy, but we went all the way. Ten kilometers from the finish line, we had a small lead over the peloton, but I knew I had a chance on camera.”

“It has been amazing,” Thomas Champion admitted.

“How crazy,” Harison Wood added at the finish line.

Both cyclists saw their teammate Benjamin Thomas achieve great success through a delicate balance between giving “almost” everything during the escape and then gathering all his composure at the finish. With past experiences in mind, one of the cyclists said: “I didn't want it to happen like in Carcassonne in the Tour two years ago. In this case, I knew the finish line and that helped me. I'm very happy to win the Giro”.

A milestone for Mobel

Benjamin Thomas' victory was promptly celebrated in Murcia on Wednesday afternoon. Adrian Molino, owner of Mobel, said that in the marketing WhatsApp group, everyone was paying attention to the events in Italy. He expressed confidence in the possibility of victory and described the day as incredibly challenging. Adrian added that the victory is a significant achievement for Mobel, a family business with humble origins, and is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.

“We were checking out the stage and I was confident that it could be done. The day was very tough, the way we competed was brutal. We lived through the finish with our hair standing on end,” continues Adrián, who concludes that ”this is a milestone for us, we're still a family business with humble roots and we see ourselves among the best in the world. It's a reward for all the people behind all this to be able to compete in such a demanding environment.”

This victory is not Mobel's first in a grand tour, as five years ago, Burgos BH rider Ángel Madrazo also won the stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España that ended in Javalambre.

What was Benjamin Thomas wearing?

The French rider wore the “Zoom” short-sleeved jersey, summer version, in “Fly-Tex” fabric, with an open structure and micro-scales that make it super-breathable for the hot stages.

Below, the “Mega” bib shorts, “Team” version, in “Revolution” fabric (71% polyamide / 29% elastane), are specially adapted for the Cofidis team. They have a compression effect that reduces muscle oscillations, improves sensations during the race and reduces fatigue.
