Almost 600 cyclists gathered last Sunday 3rd April to enjoy a new Medio Fondo cyclotourism challenge in a spectacular setting, Sierra Espuña and its surrounding villages, with the mythical ascent to the Alto del Collado Bermejo - Cima Marco Pantani PM 1st Cat. The weather was spring-like 100%: sun, clouds, some coolness, heat at the end and even a few drops on the highest peaks that did not tarnish a very beautiful day. The Mobel Sierra Espuña did not lack a detail and the organization, as usual in the CC Santa Eulalia, had everything under control to perfection to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all cyclists.

The usual training area for cyclists such as Alejandro Valverde, Luis León Sánchez, José Joaquín Rojas and Rubén Fernández was the ideal setting for a challenge designed for all those who wanted to experience the beauty of these Murcian landscapes of great cycling tradition, as well as its toughness, although the profile was suitable for all levels.

The start of this 107 km ride through medium and high mountains was the attractive spot of the Monastery of Santa Eulalia, in Totana, and the finish line, as it was a circular ride, was a few metres from it, in the Alto del Corazón de Jesús, a beautiful and hard kilometre of ascent where the strongest of the peloton were able to beat each other and fill themselves with glory. The first position went to Pedro Martínez Romera, cyclist of the CC Rubén Fernández.

As this was a non-competitive cycling tour, a large part of the route was neutralised, but there were some open stretches for the enjoyment of the participants. First the Alto de El Berro, although the cyclists regrouped after the top of the hill, which was much appreciated as the peloton had been broken from Alhama de Murcia. After the restart, the final kilometres of the climb to Collado Bermejo-Cima Marco Pantani were also open to the race, where the winner was Sebastián Mtnez. Ruiz ahead of Pedro Mtnez. Romera and Eduardo Barrero Huertas. After a long and beautiful neutralised downhill and mid-mountain route, the last part of the stage was impressive with the ascent to the Corazón al Corazón de Jesús, where the winner at the finish was Pedro Mtnez. Romera after a constant fight with Fco. Javier López Marcos (2nd) and Rafael Alcaraz Pérez (3rd). The winner of the women was Irene Méndez Melgarejo followed by Loise Ryde and Irene Castro Ibañez.

In addition, the race, part of the Murcia Region Cycle Tourist Challenge calendar, had a large parking area, showers, refreshments and a snack/meal at the end of the race. The route was perfectly coordinated and completely signposted, a structure like in the best cyclotourist marches. The spectacle and fun were guaranteed.
