We explain the causes and objectives of the movement:
We aspire to make a global contribution to helping people live happier, healthier and longer lives. That ambition underpins everything we do. It is the driving force behind our campaigns, our funding strategy and our vision for the future.
Why men's health?
Men's health status is in crisis. Simply put, men are dying too young. Worldwide, on average, men die six years earlier than women.
Moreover, mental health problems affect men more than women: of all people who commit suicide, three quarters are men. The World Health Organisation estimates that 510,000 men die each year by suicide worldwide. That's one a minute.
The impact that prostate and testicular cancers have on lives is considerable. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men worldwide and the number of cases is expected to double to 1.7 million by 2030.
Yet this gender inequality has received insufficient recognition and attention from national, regional and global policymakers and health officials. That is exactly why the Movember Foundation focuses on men's health. So Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world join voices each Movember to raise funds and draw attention to the hidden crisis in men's health.
Ensure that funds are spent where they are most needed.
The Global Action Plan (GAP) brings together more than 350 researchers from 90 institutions - including the world's leading researchers in prostate and testicular cancer research - to enable a new level of global research collaboration unprecedented in the cancer community.
In addition to international initiatives such as intervention and care programmes for prostate and testicular cancer patients, campaigns to boost physical activity, developing progressive models to improve men's mental health and wellbeing, we also fund a range of national and local programmes, always ensuring that the knowledge generated is shared successively.
Let your moustache grow but don't stop doing sport!
